Worked for collage newspaper and later for my mother a sports journalist. Was a part time gig. For me, once I was given my assignment it became a job and a responsibility to record the event as it happened. That approach isolated the action and gave me a mental wall to hide behind. However, without that assignment I probably would have reacted the same way you did.
