That is my approach. Though I am not very organized at the moment.

If you’re an Apple user this may be a good solution for you. If you optimize Mac storage, all of your full-resolution photos and videos will be stored in iCloud in their original formats. Versions that save storage space are kept on your Mac as space is needed.
